Modifying Model Angulation and Supports

Discover effective techniques for adjusting model angulation and supports to enhance stability and accuracy in your prints..

While Print Setup automatically handles orientation and support placement in Autopilot Mode, there are times when manual adjustments are necessary. These tools are useful when:

  • You want to change the model angle for print stability or resin flow
  • Supports need to be removed from sensitive features like labels or screw channels
  • You need to increase support strength for delicate or heavy prints
  • The automatic settings don’t meet your clinical preferences

Enable Manual Editing

To access orientation and support editing tools, first disable Autopilot:

  1. Open your print in Print Setup.
  2. Toggle Autopilot Off using the switch in the upper-right corner.
  3. Once Autopilot is off, the Orientation and Supports tools will appear in the sidebar.

Adjusting Model Angulation

There are two ways to manually adjust the angle of your print:

Option 1: Using the Orientation Tool

  1. Click on the model to select it.
  2. In the tool sidebar, select the Orientation tab.
  3. Use the rotation sliders or axis buttons to rotate the model around the X, Y, or Z axis.
  4. If needed, click Reset Orientation to return the model to its default position.

Option 2: Using the Gimbal

  1. Select your model by clicking on it in the viewport or by checking the box next to the STL file in the model list.
  2. A circular gimbal ring will appear around the model.
  3. Left-click and drag the ring to rotate the model in 3D space.
  4. A degree counter will appear, showing how far the model has been rotated from its original orientation.
    1. Tip: For exact control, first align the model flat to the build platform, then rotate from that neutral position.
  5. Click Confirm Changes to apply the new orientation.

Adding or Modifying Supports

Adding Supports

  1. Select your model.
  2. Open the Supports tab in the tool sidebar.
  3. Choose a support style:
    1. Balanced (default) – Light supports, easy to remove
    2. Max Strength – Thicker supports for more reinforcement
    3. Max Density – Greater number of supports for added contact points

Print Setup will automatically generate supports for the model based on your selection.

Modifying Supports

  1. With a supported model selected, go to the Supports tab.
  2. Choose Add/Remove Individual Supports.
  3. Use your mouse to:
    1. Add supports by clicking directly on the model
    2. Remove supports by clicking on the small blue support dots
  4. Once you’ve finished making changes, click Confirm Changes to save your edits.
