How to Use the Plane Cut Feature

Learn to efficiently utilize the Plane Cut feature.

The Plane Cut feature allows you to slice away a portion of the print along a flat, horizontal plane. This is especially useful when:

  • A model has an unnecessarily thick base that you want to reduce
  • You need to clean up the bottom of a scan
  • You want to reorient the print and trim material from another section (not just the base)

Enable Manual Editing

The Plane Cut tool is located within the Mesh Edit section, but it is not available while Autopilot Mode is enabled.

To access the tool:

  1. Navigate to your print in Print Setup.
  2. In the upper-right of the interface, toggle Autopilot Off.
  3. Once Autopilot is disabled, editing tools including Plane Cut will become available.

Using the Plane Cut Tool

1. With your STL file uploaded and Autopilot off, click on the Mesh Edit tab in the tool sidebar.

2. Select Start Plane Cut.

3. A colored cutting plane will appear (typically pink or red), aligned to the Z-axis by default.

4. Use the vertical slider on the side of the window or the arrows in the center of the build area to adjust the height of the plane.

5. Reposition or reorient the model if needed before cutting to target the right area.

6. When satisfied with the position of the plane, click Confirm Plane Cut to apply the change.

7. If you change your mind or want to reset, click Cancel Plane Cut to cancel the operation.
